Dorothy Pearl Halford, 83 of Amarillo passed away on September 28, 2011. Mrs. Halford's funeral service is scheduled at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 3, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road in Amarillo, TX, with Rev. Jeff Messer officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Family will receive guests from 4:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, October 2, 1011 at the Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born on November 20, 1927 in Kelton, TX to Curtis and Lessa Pond. She attended Wheeler High School, graduating in 1945. Dorothy then attended Wayland Baptist College where she was on the Flying Queens basketball team. She married Billy A. Halford in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1993. Dorothy loved to journal and write poetry. She was devoted to her family and was a woman of great faith. She had a way of making every one of her grandchildren feel special, telling each one of them they were her favorite. Dorothy was a member of Pinnacle Community Church in Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy A. Halford; her brother, Henry Curtis Pond and 2 sisters, Nina Cheadle and Billie Campbell.
Her survivors include her 4 daughters, Brenda Davidson, Kathy Warr and husband Kent, Nina Cree and husband George and Carolyn Simmons and husband Robert all of Amarillo; her son, James Halford and wife Krista of Amarillo; 7 grandchildren, Ryan Simmons and wife Candice, Shane Simmons and wife Amber Emily Cree Willding, Erin Cree Lincycomb, Nicole Roeder and husband Josh, Brooke Ledwig and husband Rob and Bailee Weaver; 10 great-grandsons and she was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great-granddaughter.
