Doris Marie Gibbs

Doris Marie Gibbs died Saturday, January 15th, 2022. The family will have a viewing Wednesday, January 19th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., and the service will be Thursday, January 20th at 2 p.m., both at LaGrone-Blackburn Shaw at 8310 S. Coulter St. in Amarillo.

Doris was born on November 20th, 1947 in Houston, TX to Clarence and Margaret Lucas. Her family later moved to Amarillo, where she lived until her passing. It was in Amarillo that she met the love of her life, Alvie Gibbs. They were married on June 10th, 1965. She worked for Maywood Incorporated as a Lead Person and Master Rip Saw Operator from 1968 until 1987.

She was a beloved friend, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to many. While she was not the typical “Grandma” type, she helped forge a legacy of tough love and strength needed to navigate the complications often faced in life. Doris passed on a great deal of that strength, stubbornness and a fiery, fighting spirit to her family. While words and actions of love were not her strong point, her love for her family could not be questioned. She was always there when needed, and often a pillar of strength when her family was struggling or needed someone in their corner. Although her words may not have been dripping with sweetness, they were often exactly what were needed to pull it together and fight through the hard times.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Alvie; and son’s Clarence and Alvie Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Gibbs, Ann Ackroyd and husband Steven, daughter in law Lana Gibbs; 7 grandchildren, Shasta Gibbs and fiancée Shane, Ckyler Artis and wife Monica, Shawn D. Gibbs and wife Samantha, Shelby Gibbs and husband Landan, Jessica Matthews and husband Toby, Shawn P. Gibbs, and Brooklyn Estrada and husband Javion, and 12 great grandchildren.
