Donald Haworth Rose, 94, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 4, 2012. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Steve Waterhouse officiating. Military honors rendered by the United States Army.
The family will receive guests from 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Chapel, 8310 Coulter Rd.
Donald was born on October 17, 1917 in Wellington, KS to Roy and Beulah Haworth Rose. He proudly participated in the Boy Scouts, rising to the rank of Eagle Scout and later as a Boy Scout leader. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1935. Then he attended Texas A&M University where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1939. Don was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army upon graduation. He served in WWII in field artillery in Alaska and Europe until 1945 and reached the rank of captain. He served as an aviation engineer in the Korean Conflict before his honorable discharge in 1952. Don married Anna Mary Nelson in August of 1941 in Amarillo. He worked as a Supervisory Design Engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation until his retirement after 44 years of employment. Don was a member of Westcliff Bible Church in Amarillo for the last 20 years and a past member of the Texas A&M Alumni Association. Don was most known for his generous community involvement. He will be remembered for the way he lovingly gardened and brought the flowers from his garden to the local nursing homes to encourage and bless the residents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna Mary Rose and sister, Evelyn Caldwell.
Survivors include a Son, Dr. Douglas N. Rose and wife Rita of Center Line, MI; daughter, Linda Ann Rose of Amarillo; 2 grandsons, Donald N. Rose of Malabar, FL and David N.H. Rose serving in the U.S Navy in Japan and 3 granddaughters, Dana K. Rose of Lyndhurst, OH, Danielle E. Rose of Farmington Hills, MI and Danica C.D. Rose and husband Michael Cale of Akron, OH.
