Donald M. Anderson, 89, of Amarillo passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at an Amarillo Nursing Home.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home, 8310
Mr. Anderson was born July 2, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Melvin and Francis (Hansen) Anderson. In 1952, he joined the United States Army where he was then sent to the front lines of the Korean War. He was discharged with full honors in 1954.
Mr. Anderson was a brave and loyal soldier. He married Wanda Lee Young on June 18, 1960, in Sioux City. After serving his country he worked 33 years for IBP, inc. until his retirement in 2004.
Mr. Anderson enjoyed working in the yard, cooking, and doing wood projects in his workshop among many other things. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Amarillo; daughter, Roxanne “Roxy” Maddox of Amarillo; son, Brian Anderson of Amarillo; granddaughters Tara and Amanda Maddox of Amarillo; grandson, Spencer Maddox of Amarillo; as well numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, June Olson, Christine Kobes, Jeannette Karolick, Maebelle Hawkins, Doris Sherrick, Florence Anderson; and a brother, Robert Anderson.
