Don Lee Morgan

Don Lee Morgan, 90, of Amarillo, Texas, went into the arms of Our Savior on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at his home in Amarillo, TX.  He passed peacefully in his sleep. Don was born on February 1, 1931, in Tulia, TX, and soon moved to Amarillo, where he spent much of his life.  He went to school there and graduated from Amarillo High School.  Right after high school he served in the Air Force in the Korean War.  After four years in the service, he went on to attend and graduate from West Texas State University with a bachelors degree in business. He was self-employed for almost all his adult life.  Very few people in this world have been able to do such a variety of things, both in work and personal life.  There were a lot of adventures, over a really long period of time.  You, reading this, if you knew him, will probably remember some of them, and your part in these adventures.  You are part of his story.  Some of these adventures were hard, and a lot of work, and some were more relaxed.  No list is complete, but these adventures included: fixing up his own car as a teenager, working as a draftsman, drawing cartoons for military publications, working as a mechanic and teaching mechanics, owning a car wash, managing apartments, designing, building and operating amusement rides, building several unique houses, a lot of fiberglass and carbon fiber work, making molds for stick horses, exploring the north coast of Haiti with the local fishermen in his little motorboat, sailing a 40ft sailboat around the Gulf Coast, sailing Lake Meredith and around Zihuatanejo, Mexico, in his little Lido sailboat, drag racing, go-cart racing, sports car racing, playing tennis, and fishing.  He traveled to more than twenty foreign countries, some for work, some for pleasure.  In addition to Amarillo, Don lived for several years in New Mexico, and a short time in El Paso, TX, Scituate, MA, and Cap Haïtien, Haïti.

He knew a tremendous amount about a variety of subjects, particularly mechanics, science, current affairs, and history.  Through all of his life, he continued to read and educate himself about whatever interested him.  He was understanding and compassionate towards many people, of all races, who were needing help in one way or another.  He had a deep faith, and knew Jesus as his Savior. Don barely retired.  He was running his family business, operating carousel rides in shopping malls, until about 18 months ago.  He worked hard pretty much all his life.  He had amazing perseverance through many long and difficult projects. He is survived by his wife Deborah Lee Morgan.  They were married for 56 years.  He had seven children, four from an earlier marriage: daughter Sidney Rebecca Turner of Amarillo, son James Andrew Price of Amarillo, daughter Shearer D'Lee Pinkston of Roswell, GA, and daughter Lizabeth Price Seliger of Amarillo.  Don and Deborah had three children: son Peter Hawke Morgan of Albuquerque, NM, son Alexander Peter James Morgan of Ócate, NM, and daughter Manoucheca Christiana Gabrièle Morgan of San Antonio.  He also had lots of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.  He is preceded on going to heaven by his father Lawson Leander Morgan, mother Florine Louise Morgan, and sister Venita Jo Wilcox. The family would like to thank the VA hospital staff in Amarillo and Albuquerque for their efforts in keeping him healthy, especially in the last 10 years.

There will be a memorial service on Friday November 19, 2021, at 11AM at Trinity Baptist Church 1601 I-40 West, Amarillo, TX 79109.
