Donald Rush Hall, 85, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017.

A Celebration of Life service was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 25th in the LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Rd. Chapel. Glen Walton, associate minister of San Jacinto Church of Christ officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S Coulter St., Amarillo, Texas.

Don was born in Wynona, Oklahoma on May 26th, 1931 to William L. Hall and Minnie E. Rush. He was the youngest of 8 children. He attended Harding University where he met and married Rowena Nadine Boler on March 2nd, 1952. His death was eight days short of their 65th wedding anniversary.

He had several professions prior to retirement including time as a Church of Christ minister, and in residential construction. He spent most of his professional career in insurance sales working in Phoenix, AZ, and Lubbock, TX before moving to Amarillo in 1982.

Don was affectionately known as the “plant man” by many in the community, and loved to share a passion for plants and to cultivate landscapes and gardens. He was a member of the Amarillo Botanical Garden Club. He was also a skilled photographer and artist, who applied these talents to, among many things, constructing model villages, and was a member of the Texas Panhandle “Department 56” Club. Don enjoyed to travel, and had a particular fondness for visiting areas throughout the Southwest.

Don and Rowena attended the Bell Avenue Church of Christ.

Don is survived by his wife, Rowena Hall; three children, Rowena Kathy Hall, Jerry Hall, and Chris Hall and wife Cindy; two grandchildren, LaRinda Holland and husband Steven, Jon Hall and wife Autumn; as well as other relatives and many friends.

The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to be sent in Don’s name to the High Plains Children Home, P.O. Box 7448, Amarillo, TX 79114.
