Dixie Ray Zickefoose

Services will at held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Mr. Loran Harper officiating.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel.

Dixie Ray Zickefoose passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Plano. Born September 13, 1917, in Ringling, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Herbert L. and Bonita Boyd. She grew up in Springer, New Mexico, graduated from high school there, then graduated from Texas Women’s University.  She received her teaching certificate from University of New Mexico. Dixie taught in Albuquerque before moving to Amarillo. On November 22, 1956 she married Ivan Zickefoose. She taught a year at Dwight Morrow, then spent 25 years teaching second grade at Coronado Elementary School.  She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, and had received many honors for her teaching from AISD. Until she moved to an assisted living in Plano, she was an active member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ.  All who knew her loved her, and she and Ivan opened their home to missionaries and for many church functions. She often taught women’s classes at Comanche Trail. Dixie loved the Lord, made Bible study and prayer part of her daily life.  Dixie was beautiful, kept a beautiful home, and prepared wonderful meals. Family was so important to her, and this included her church family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1997, her daughter, Barbara Jackson in 2001, and two brothers.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Mike Rodgers and his wife EJ; her daughter, Ann Morgan and husband Dave; six grandchildren, Jennifer Rodgers, Michael Rodgers, Tammy Hischke and husband Dr. Jeff Hischke, Clay Jackson, Dr. Craig Morgan and Scott Morgan,  and wife Margo and her great-grandsons, Ren and Trenton.
