The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM tonight at the
Funeral Home in Amarillo at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter in Amarillo. Mr. Johnson will also be available for viewing from 10:00 AM until service time on Thursday morning at the Church of Christ in Turkey.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday in The Turkey Church of Christ, in Turkey Texas with Mr. David Hutton and Mr. Billy Adcock officiating.
Mr. Johnson was born Feb. 22, 1926 in Hall County to Arthur Johnson and Lizzie Holland Johnson. He grew up in Hall County and graduated from Turkey High School in 1942. He proudly served our country as a Medic in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1944. He attended Abilene Christian College and married Sammie Russell in Abilene on Feb. 28, 1948 in Abilene. Delos served as a full-time Church of Christ Minister for over 50 years. He pastured churches in Seagraves, Midland, Arlington and Quitique. At the time of his passing Mr. Johnson was a member of Canyon Hills Church of Christ in Canyon, where he recently moved to be closer to his special niece and nephew Iris and Tim Atchison. He served in many areas during his lifetime ministry, including the Board of Directors for the Berean Children’s Home in Louisiana, he was Director of the Arch L. Ferguson Foundation, he served as Director of Southwest Bible Institute, was Director of Mexican Missions and was also past President of the Lion’s Club in Quitique. Delos was a servant of God and held may revivals throughout the years of his ministry. He enjoyed playing golf and he loved to travel with Sammie. Mr. Johnson was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, R.V Johnson and Eilland Johnson; three sisters, Stella Conner, Gladys Johnson and Kaleta Corder.
Survivors include his wife Sammie; two sons, Eugene Johnson of Springfield, IL and Ted Johnson of Dallas; his sister, Kathryn Blessen and husband Jimmie of Amarillo; his brother, Ellmore Johnson and wife Marie of Lubbock, four grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
