Cruz Olivas

July 15, 1955 — February 26, 2023

On Sunday, February 26, 2023, Cruz Olivas-Borjas passed away peacefully at age 67, in Amarillo, Texas.

Cruz was a wife, the mother of 4 children, a grandmother of 12, and soon to be a great-grandmother, but she was also family to many more who know her as “Crucita”.

She was born to the late Pablo Borjas and Manuela Villescas on July 15, 1955, in Ejido Morelos, Municipio de Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua.

While leaving in Mexico, when Cruz' children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” was not a familiar term. It was common for wives to stay home while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Cruz was an exceptional wife and mother, who regardless of the many struggles, carried the burden and many times alone. She was more than just a stay-at-home mom. Her, dedication, and sacrifice to her family was to be admired. She did this not out of obligation, but of patient and selfless love. If those who knew her ever wanted to describe what a strong woman is, they could define it with one word or short phrase, “Crucita”, or “My Mom Cruz”.

Cruz is survived by her husband Jose Olivas, her daughter Claudia Olivas, her 3 sons Cesar Olivas, Gerardo Olivas, and Fabian Olivas, and her twelve grandchildren.
