Rev. Clyde H. Townsend
March 4, 1934 – January 27, 2016
Reverend Clyde H. Townsend, 81, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, in Amarillo Texas. Celebration Service will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 31, 2016 in First Church of the Nazarene, 5201 S. Soncy with Rev. Jeffrey Marco, pastor officiating. LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S Coulter Street.
He was born March 4, 1934, in Paonia, CO to Rev. Charles A. Townsend and Veda Binford Townsend. Clyde grew up in Paonia where he attended Paonia schools as well as Haviland Academy in Haviland, KS. After high school, he worked in Durango, CO and in Albuquerque, NM as a journeyman machinist. He later attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO and was ordained an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene in 1974. He pastored for 12 years in Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico. He received his Clinical Pastoral Care certification in 1979. In his later years, he returned to the machine shop retiring from Jack B Kelley Inc. in Amarillo, Texas. In retirement, Clyde continued to work until the day of his passing. Clyde was married to Elsie U. Baker in 1952 in La Junta, CO. They were married for 53 wonderful years.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, one brother, and wife, Elsie.
Clyde is survived by a brother, Emory Townsend, Paonia, daughter, Susan (Sam) McPherson, Amarillo, sons, Richard, Oklahoma City, and Donald (Brenda) Townsend, Albuquerque; grandchildren, Jenni Monteblanco, Amy Cooper, Sara Newton, Clark Townsend, Neil Townsend, Bryan Townsend, Chase Townsend, Kirsty Townsend and five great-grandchildren, as well as extended family.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
