Clyde Earl Flanagan

Clyde Earl Flanagan, 66, of Amarillo, Texas, passed from this life on July 14, 2021.

He was born on April 30, 1955 in Amarillo, Texas to Paul Flanagan and Emma Stephens. After graduating high school he continued his education through Amarillo College where he took several different courses. In his early years he worked for the railroad in Amarillo as an transport driver, later Head start at North Heights as a paraprofessional, Region 16 as a paraprofessional and working with special needs children, Black Historical Cultural Center member and a worker, Maverick Boys and Girls Club as an Assistant Director, Randall County/peace officer, off duty security. Receiving many accolades for the work he did in our community.

Clyde was a very faithful member of the Baptist religion and attended several different churches in his time which include, Carter Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, Rockwell Road Church and Shiloh Baptist Church. He also enjoyed many things like, Going to gun range, listen to music of array of genre, traveling, skating, tennis, watching Sanford and Son, along with westerns, and telemundo soaps.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Laura Flanagan; his son, Christopher Earl Flanagan; his sister, Connie Flanagan and his brother, Billie Flanagan all of Amarillo.

He is survived by his daughter, Taylor Flanagan-Willis and her husband Cedric Willis of Amarillo; his sisters, Betty Anderson of Antioch, California and Doris Hobbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his brother, Richard L. Flanagan of Amarillo; his nephews Tony Flanagan, Elbert sRoy Anderson, Eric Flanagan of California; his nieces, Kathy Patrick, Pamela Anderson of California, Porsha Jackson of Amarillo, Takia Robinson, LaTasha Flanagan of California, LaShannon Flanagan of California. His sisters in-law, Carolyn Dever of Amarillo, Christina Dever of Arlington TX, and Tracy Kilgore of Amarillo; his brother in-law, Hobert Kilgore of Corinth TX; his grandchildren, Christopher Earl M. Flanagan of Amarillo, Jadzn Flanagan of Lubbock, and Caiden Willis of Amarillo.

My father cherished his family.  My father has been sick all of his life, but for people looking in you would never know because he didn’t let that get in the way of doing what he wanted to do in life.  He fought his illnesses with courage, grace and determination

As a kid I can remember playing basketball in middle school and my father being in and out of the hospital, I was so proud to see my father in the stands the same day of him getting out of the hospital, not to mention he would take me and my aunts, uncle and friends site seeing around Christmas time to see Christmas lights, once it was the same day he was release from the hospital.

He had a passion helping children, while attending Rockwell Road Church when he felt up to it he would ride on the bus to go pick up the children and dropping them off. His community involvement and volunteerism were admirable.  He love playing tennis, skating, going to the gun range, and listening array of music genre. He was awesome cook and he cooked and baked from scratch. He loved sweets so much when it came to cake he had more frosting then cake. He pride himself on bbq being so tender the meat falls off the bone, but like bushes bake beans I knew his secret. Like his late son Chris, my father never met a stranger, while just looking at his face he didn’t look so friendly at times but he had a kind and caring heart. He loved being a co-conspirator with his grandchildren. Anyone who knew my father knew he had a great sense of humor, and easy-going personality, which enable him to make friends easily and to be a well-liked, respected person. Last but not least he was very soft spoken, but would cut up every chance he was given lol! My father’s absence leaves a tremendous loss in the lives of his family members and many dear friends.  Blessed are those who knew him and his cheerfulness, hard work and generosity. You will be missed, Love always.
