Clifford Wallace Johnson (April 17, 1941-July 26, 2023)
Cliff Johnson was an outgoing, creative, fun-loving soul who enjoyed entertaining his friends and family with stories and tall tales. He was an automobile aficionado, a music lover, and man with a grand sense of humor.
Born in Charleston, South Carolina on April 17, 1941 to Francis and William Johnson, Cliff grew up working on the family farm. He attended elementary, middle school and high school in Amarillo. Cliff attended The University of North Texas and was a proud member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He studied Business at North Texas and later received his Masters in Business from Southern Methodist University.
When Cliff met Linda Fonti, the love of his life, he knew he had found the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. They married, started a family and had two sons. They travelled extensively during Cliff’s time working in Human Resources at Rockwell. After stints in Louisville, KY; Athens, Georgia; Tyler, TX and Kingwood, TX, Cliff and Linda then travelled to Saudi Arabia to work for Aramco.
When they landed back in Texas once again, Cliff decided to pursue his life long dream of becoming a funeral director. After training for his new profession, he and Linda purchased funeral homes in West Texas, settling in Marfa.
After retirement, Cliff and Linda spent time in Rockdale, Hideaway Lake and Austin. Cliff pursued his love of music by participating in a barber shop quartet, and later by studying opera in The Berkshires and Italy, earning chorus roles in Austin Lyric Opera and El Paso Opera.
Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roy Johnson, and his grandson, Jacob Johnson. He is survived by his wife Linda, and his sons, Todd Johnson and daughter-in-law, Cathy; and Ty Johnson and daughter-in-law, Michele. Cliff is also survived by brother, Ray Johnson; his sister, Cathy Hickham and his grandchildren, Wesley, Julian and Henley Johnson.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the caregivers at Silverado Memory Care and Magnolia Hospice who cared for Cliff during the last years of his life.
