Cletes "Dedi" Drake Starkey, age 79, of Amarillo, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014. A time for the family to receive friends will be Tuesday, February 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 10:00 am at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Rev. Bobby File, pastor of Evangelical Fellowship Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery East.
Dedi was born in Conway, Ark. to Curtis and Mary Orpha (Hinesley) Deason on November 13, 1934. In addition to raising five children, Dedi was active in the community with many service organizations including PTA and 4-H. In San Angelo, Tx. she acted as director of a nine-county program benefitting the aging through the Tom Green County Library and later she was sales manager for Cardinal Homes in Ballinger, Tx. Her cooking skills were renowned by both friends and family, and for several years she wrote a cooking column for the Indianapolis Star. She was preceded in death by a daughter Sherri Ray and a brother Roger Deason.
Dedi, sometimes called "Skeet" by close family members is survived by a daughter Pam Lusk of Amarillo and three sons Brian Drake of Stephenville, Tx., Steve Drake and Vi Fielder of Farmington, NM, and Tony and Tamara Drake of Ovilla, Tx. She also leaves behind seven Grandchildren and eight Great grandchildren as well as a brother Kevin Deason of Carmel, In.
