Claude Bruce McCracken, 88, of Amarillo passed from this life joining his Lord, his wife and many loved ones on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 24, 2019 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road with Pastor Rick Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 - 7:30 pm , Thursday, May 23, 2019 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel.
At the age of 16, he married the love of his life, Oneda Faye Bowen in Memphis, TX. Upon her death in 2013, they were married for over sixty six years. Making their home in Amarillo, they raised two daughters. Claude was employed by Asarco for over 46 years, retiring at the age of 62. He became an ordained deacon at Hillcrest Baptist Church on October 8, 1989. He served the Lord in many ways; driving a shuttle van taking the elderly to church, visiting nursing homes and maintaining the church. On Sunday mornings, he was there to greet every one and help with the service. He was voted Man of the Year at Hillcrest in 1992. He believed in standing up for what he believed whether it was his faith, church, family or friends.
He enjoyed working on cars, gardening, playing baseball in the front yard with family and friends, playing cards, dominos, camping, boating, water skiing and traveling. His favorite places included Fun Valley, Lake Texoma, Branson and the mountains of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his wife; siblings, Nadine Sonleiter, Bill, Ed and Bessie McCracken, George McCracken and his nephews, Winfred Gene McCracken, Eddie McCracken and two brother in laws, Alvie Ray Butler and Perlie Butler.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Paxton and husband Joe and Carron Sanders; his grandchildren, Bryan Paxton and wife Desiree, Corey Paxton and wife Melissa, Chad Sanders, Marci Allison and wife Ashleigh; his Great Grandchildren, Travis, Samantha, Kamryn and Brandon Paxton and Kelsen Bowen Allison; a sister, Aletha Richardson; close family members, Elnora Corona, Marie Burchfield, R.E. Butler and wife Pam, Alta May Condran and husband Terry, Donna Butler, Linda McCracken, Mazie Blair, Joan Kingham and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
