Clarence “Buddy” Bell was born July 17, 1948 near Memphis, Tennessee to Ezra Clarence Bell and Elida Hilton Bell. Buddy lived in Memphis until he enlisted in the Army in 1969 until 1973. He returned to Memphis and went to college for a short time, but decided to travel and finally settled in Houston, Texas. He claimed to be a “transplanted Texan”. While in Houston he met his wife, Lynn, who was in town for a science fiction convention. Eventually they married and time brought them a son. The family lived two years in Ft. Worth, then moved to Hereford, Texas. He felt he had finally found his home and made many friends there. Unfortunately, his health failed and he finished his life in the VA Community Living Center where he played Bingo every Wednesday and Saturday. He made many friends among the veterans there.
Buddy Bell married Lynn Rudd on March 17, 1984 in a Renaissance wedding. They were blessed with a son, James Llywelyn Bell, who became the meaning of life for Buddy. James brought many more boys into the family who were looking for acceptance and structure in their lives. This led to taking in as a foster son, James Mathew Andrews, who came to call his Dad.
Buddy had great love to share with people and many times that love was returned. He loved to learn the stories behind each person for he had a great passion for history and believed that history is truly found in the everyday people not the celebrities.
