Cheyenne McKay Wheatley

Cheyenne McKay Wheatley of Amarillo, TX passed away on November 22, 2022, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Cheyenne was born December 21, 1951, to Katie Mckay and JC Mckay of Amarillo, TX. After graduating from Palo Duro High school in 1969 Cheyenne went on to study English at West Texas A&M University in which she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English. After graduation, she got a job at the Post Office as a letter sorter machine operator and later became the passport and claims clerk kick-starting a 37 year career. In the spring of 1978, Cheyenne met Barre' Wheatley at the Haystack Apartments in Amarillo and later married on December 08, 1979. They went on to have 2 children, Dax and D'Yani Wheatley. In 2008 Cheyenne retired from the Post Office spending the rest of her days enjoying her grandchildren, reading and cheering on the Houston Astros.

Cheyenne is predeceased by her father J.C. McKay and grandmother Madea Watson.
