Chester Eugene Dodds, 94, of Amarillo died on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 19, 2017 in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, Amarillo, Texas.
Chester was born on March 29, 1922 in Caney, Oklahoma to Samuel and Minnie Lou Dodds. He joined the United States Army on November 18, 1942 where he served his country proudly. Chester married Ollie Lawanda Gay in 1953 and they made Amarillo their home. He worked for Amarillo Hardware for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ollie, a daughter June E. Dodds, five sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his children, Curtis E. Dodds and wife Karen, Ruth E. Cooper, Samuel D. Dodds, Darlene Dodds, Charolette K. Hunter and husband Kenneth, Thomas W. Dodds and Timothy D. Dodds and wife Beverly; a brother, Dean Dodds; a brother in law, Stanley Massey; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
