Charles (Chuck) Allen, age 92, died April 5, 2014 in Amarillo. Born June 1, 1921 at Wellington, Tx., Chuck graduated from Shamrock High School in 1940 where he quarter backed the Irish to a district championship. While at Texas Tech, WWII broke out and Chuck enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He received his pilots wings and commission on January 14, 1943. The same day he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia (VA) Davis in Houston. They were married 71 years. Chuck was a flight instructor in Avon Park, Florida before being sent oversees where he flew 49 missions in a B-26 bomber over Germany.
Chuck and VA lived in Wellington, Tx. for 15 years before moving to Canyon where Chuck was an officer at First National Bank. An avid golfer, he was a member of Canyon Country Club for many years. He and VA lived on the golf course and played many rounds together. Their summer home was in Pendaries Golf and Country Club, New Mexico.
Chuck was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Kizziar, Pauline Johnson and Ottice Elms.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, children Vicky Simmons of San Marcos, Charlotte Mooring of New Braunfels, Thomas Allen, J. P. Allen of San Francisco, grandchildren Gregg Simmons, Sarah Ann Simmons, Jason Baker, Rusty Baker, Melissa Allen, Elizabeth Brown, Jennie Jackson, Thomas Allen and 12 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother Max Allen and sisters Ruth Leonard, Tonie Hendrick, Sue Hukill.
Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery, Shamrock, Texas
