Carol Joe Werner

Carol Joe Werner, age 72 of Hamlin passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. A time for the family to receive friends will be Friday, March 14, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Hamlin. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Hamlin with Pastor Greg Clemmer officiating.
Carol Joe was born October 4, 1941 in Stamford to Joseph Asberry and Myrtice Maureen (Shell) Simpson. She lived all of her life in Hamlin graduating from Hamlin ISD and from Baylor University.
She married George L. Werner, Sr. on July 19, 1968 in Hamlin. She worked as a school teacher at Hamlin ISD and taught private piano lessons for many years. Carol Joe was recognized as Woman of the Year in 2013.
Carol Joe taught the Mary Martha Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church and was also the pianist at the church. Carol Joe was also a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Sorority.
To know Carol Joe was to love her. She had such a caring and giving spirit. Carol joe loved her God, family and friends unconditionally. She was well known for being a wonderful pianist. She taught many students throughout her life and took great pride in their accomplishments.
Carol Joe was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Maureen Simpson.
Carol Joe leaves behind her husband of 45 years George L. Werner Sr. of Hamlin and a son George L. Werner Jr. and wife Melissa of Abilene and a daughter Jennifer and husband Cory Richey of Amarillo as well as five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Richey, Jacob Richey, Taylor Werner, Jackson Werner, Alivea Werner. She also leaves behind a sister Faith Absher of Vidor and several nieces and nephews.
