Mr. Carlos L. Wilhite, 87 of Amarillo passed away June 14, 2011. Memorial Service will be at10:00am Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Hillside Christian Church Chapel. Private family burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors.
Carlos was born June 10, 1924, in Brownfield Texas to Claud and Jewel Wilhite. He had two younger brothers, Melton and Donald. On October 26, 1946 he married the love of his life, Mary Jo Clements. Together they moved to Amarillo in 1955. They owned Wilhite Refrigeration and worked together there until their retirement. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church and the Fisherman Sunday Campus Group.
He was a very kind-hearted and loving man. He modeled what a true Christian was in his everyday actions and set a wonderful example for all who knew him. One of his favorite sayings was, “Keep your fork, the best is yet to come.”
Carlos was a man who loved God, his family, and his country. He was a proud WWII veteran who had seen D-Day at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Master Sergeant and Tank Commander. Later on he went to serve his country again in the Korean War.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, and a daughter Rebekah Jewel Wilhite. He was survived by their four children, Jim Wilhite and wife Brenda, Dianna Melson and husband Heidt, Brenda Hunt and husband Bruce, and Jud Wilhite and wife Lori; eight grandchildren, Beth, Brad, Jenny, Joanne, Christy, Adrien, Emma and Ethan.
The family would like to thank the precious ministering angels at BSA Hospice for their loving care of Papa.
