Carleta Jon Fernandes

Carleta Jon Fernandes, 78, of Amarillo passed from this life on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Viewing will begin at noon on Friday, January 11, 2019 with family receiving guests from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 12, 2019 in Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Nate Magloughlin officiating.
Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Road.

Carleta was born on November 9, 1940 in Walters, Oklahoma to Carl and Myrtle (Beavers) Goodwin. When she was a young girl, she moved with her family to Amarillo where she attended local schools. She married Roy Jeffrey Jr. in 1956. Carleta attended St. Mary's College in Leavenworth, Kansas. She returned to Amarillo where she worked as a deputy for Potter County Sheriff's Department for 17 years before retiring. Carleta married Richard "Rick" Fernandes on September 14, 1999 in Clovis, New Mexico. She was an active member in Daughters of the American Revolution, Amarillo Genealogy Society, Friends of the Library, Ancient Scribblers and a board member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Carleta was an avid reader, she also enjoyed antiques, oil painting and photography. All who know and loved her will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James Goodwin and Lyndell Goodwin, a son, Jacen Jeffrey, and a grandson, Stacey Vassey.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Rick Fernandes; children, Ray Jeffrey, Karen Jones and husband, Tim, Leigh Ann Vassey, Chrysta Fernandes, and Karl Fernandes and wife Brandi; a brother, Bobby Goodwin; a sister, Patsy Bainum and husband, Danny; 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
