Calvin Andrew Costley, 77, of Amarillo passed away on September 23, 2011. Services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, September 26, 2011 in LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road, Amarillo, with Mike Kelley, Camp Pastor of Camp Masterson officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, TX.
Mr. Costley was born on June 30, 1934, in Amarillo to Glenn and Grace Costley. He married Karen “Sue” Kates on January 16, 1982. Mr. Costley had been in law enforcement for 25 years of his life. Serving as a Deputy Sheriff with Randall County, Chief of Police for the City of Canyon and Chief of Police for the City of Stinnett.
Mr. Costley also held a pilots license and an auctioneer’s license and ended his career as a truck driver. He was a cowboy all his life. Calvin boxed for Golden Gloves in the fifties. He coached golden gloves twice with the last time in Stinnett where he started a Boys Club for youth.
Calvin had a gift with young people. He loved them and they loved and admired him. He was a role model for many a young man. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Canyon. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Bob Costley and his mother-in-law, Nancy Richardson.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Costley of Amarillo; his daughter, Vickie Self and husband Mike of Farmersville, two sons, Greg Costley and wife Kim of Tulsa, OK and Cal Costley of Bixby, OK; two stepsons, Rusty Simms and wife Chante and Danny Sims and wife Susie all of Stinnett, his brother, Jerry Costley and wife Lynn of Amarillo; his sister, Dorothy Gatten and husband Bob of Royse City; 16 grandchildren, Kasey Bush of Princeton, Matthew and Stephanie Bush of Farmersville , Katie and Stephen Waldrop of Princeton, Taylor and Carly Costley of Tulsa, Chrisitan and Megan Costley of Bixby, Lisa, Logan and Skyler Sims, Brent, Aaron, McKenzie, Connor and Spencer St. Charles, all of Stinnett; and four great-grandaughters, Breana Bush of Farmersville, Bella Self of Edgewood, Alice Bush and Lylnntee Waldrop of Princeton.
The Family will receive visitors from 6-8 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the funeral home.
The family suggest memorials be to a favorite charity.
