Buddy Townsend

Buddy Townsend, 55, of Canyon passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2011.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Fellowship Church West Sanctuary with the
Rev. Kevin Deckard officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St.

Buddy was born March 13, 1956, in Nocona to Dr. and Mrs. Charles R. Townsend. He grew up in Canyon and graduated from Canyon High School in 1974. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State University in 1985. He married Cindy Bounds in 1975 in Canyon at the J.A. Hill Chapel on the West Texas State University campus.

Buddy worked for many years as an insurance claim representative for State Farm Insurance. He was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church and was very involved in Golden Spread Emmaus Community, and loved serving on the Emmaus Walks. He will be remembered by his family as a man of God who was a devoted and loving husband, son, father and grandfather. He loved playing golf with his family and friends and also enjoyed bicycling and participated in many cycling events to benefit charity. He was a gifted artist and a man of many talents. He built the home where and his family lived on the rim of the Canyon Country Club. Buddy had a big heart and was known for his kindness to others and was a true disciple of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Judy Bounds.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy; three sons, Jason Townsend and wife Ellen of Amarillo, Walt Townsend and wife Rosie of Jacksonville, N.C., and Danny Townsend and wife Kelly of Amarillo; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles R. Townsend of Canyon; a brother, Dr. Bill Townsend and wife Dr. Janet Townsend of Canyon; a twin sister, Dr. Mary Jane Townsend and husband Dr. Michael Guttenplan of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Rosebud, Abby, Taylor, Hanah Rae and Charles Jackson; his mother-in-law, Jo Ellen Cahill and husband Roy of Amarillo; and his father-in-law, Billy Bounds of Idalou.

Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Trinity Fellowship Church, 5000 Hollywood Road, Amarillo, TX 79118-5000; Bethesda Outreach; or a charity of your choice.
