Brenda went home to be with the Lord May 13, 2012. She was surrounded by her loving family. Brenda was born to E.M. and Dorothy Blackburn March 13, 1947 in Amarillo, Texas and had lived in Colorado Springs for over 40 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and was deeply loved by family and friends. Brenda’s gentle and loving spirit was felt by all. The loss by her family and friends is beyond our ability to express.
Brenda’s joy in life was being with her family and exploring Colorado and New Mexico. There were many short trips and adventures to Taos, Santa Fe and Ouray over the years. Brenda was an avid reader and devoted student of the Bible which she studied daily for over 45 years. Her faith formed the basis of joy, gentleness and relationship with others.
Brenda attended Texas Tech and UCCS with a focus on education. She taught at Ruth Washburn Cooperative Nursery School for 25 years and was voted the Gazette Teacher of the Year in 2009. Brenda loved the children and was always excited to foster creative learning and colorful art projects.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Benjamin. Brenda is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jack, her sons David and Matthew (Sheila), daughter, Katie Unger (Mike), her brother Ed (Linda) Blackburn, sister Karen Blackburn, her mother in law, Laverne Hood, who loved her as a daughter, her beloved grandchildren, Sydney, Ellen, Easton and Adrienne Bren, her beloved sisters-in-law, Sheryl O’Dell (Bill) and Kenda Foran (Tom) and her wonderful nieces and nephews.
