BILLIE LOUISE “NANNY” GRANT BARRETT

“… I think you know this, but I adored Nanny. As Nanny grew older the thought would creep up in my mind, “What will I do in a world without Nanny?” It’s a world I never wanted to know. Nanny was the most loving person I have ever known. I will miss so much how she loved me so hard. I will miss that leg pat and knee squeeze. I will miss how she would just look deep into my eyes and tell me she loved me. I will miss how her voice would crack when she had to say goodbye. I will miss her happy birthday song…”
A loving Granddaughter.

Billie Louise “Nanny” Grant Barrett joined the heavenly choir of Angels on Wednesday, July 8, 2020; she was 91 years old. Louise was born March 6, 1929 in Tahoka, Texas to James R. and Mary Lee Pinkley though Amarillo, Texas was always “home” for her. Louise’s early career was that of Wife and Mom in her “adopted” hometown of Plainview; and, though she was unable to complete her high school education, her passion was seeing that her sons all received a great education; to that end she served for many years in varying official capacities in the local, district, state, and national levels of the Parent-Teachers Association and was honored with Lifetime memberships at all levels. Later in life Louise became a successful retail salesperson in both Plainview and Amarillo.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Royce Pinkley as well as husbands Huey F. Grant (1977) and Jimmy “Beau” Barrett (1990); she is survived by a brother, James Pinkley of Richmond, VA and a sister, Joyce Hall of Amarillo. Louise is also survived by sons Hue Grant and his wife Judy, Nick Grant and his wife Kelli, and Chess Grant and his wife Tessa; and, of course, Nanny, always, to 9 beloved Grandchildren as well as 9 Great-grandchildren, with others on the way.
She Laughed…She Loved…She Lived!!!

Burial will be private with a Celebration of Life to be scheduled and announced at a later date.
