Bettye Dee Junell, 88 of Amarillo passed away on November 7, 2011. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Friday, November 11, 2011 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 555 E. Hastings Ave., Amarillo with Rev. Roger Smith of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
Mrs. Junell was born August 23, 1923 in Amarillo to Bud and Vada Funderburg Gilbert. She attended Buchanan Street School/Horace Mann School and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942. She married William Turner Junell on October 14, 1942 in Amarillo. He passed away on March 9, 2010. She was employed at Crow-Gouldy, St. Anthony’s Hospital, Levine’s Department Store and Panhandle Laundry. She then spent over 50 years alongside her husband as the bookkeeper and co-owner of Junell Plumbing. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and Naomi Sunday School Class. She and Mr. Junell had been very active in all the Amarillo High School Alumni activities.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Ronnie Stephens and husband Sidney of Shawnee, OK; four sons, Robert Junell and wife Beverly, Gary Junell and wife Sharon, Brent Junell and wife Sheila and Kent Junell and wife Renay, all of Amarillo; one brother, Tommy Joe Gilbert of Tucson, AZ; one sister-in-law, Ruby Snider of Amarillo; Thirteen grandchildren; Derick Stephens, Alan Junell, Windi Stephens, Tanya Smith, Melanie Scott, Brandon Junell, Julie Scott, Clinton Junell, Dee Dee King, Brian Junell, Blake Junell, Michael Junell and Brad Junell, Thirty-Three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
