Benjamin William Reed

Memorial Service will be10am Monday, January 7, 2013 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Home, Coulter Road Chapel with Pastor Jeff Messer, Chaplain of Bivins Memorial Nursing Home officiating. LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Ben was born April 7, 1935 in Manitoa, Illinois unto Thomas and Rachel Reed. After his father died Rachel married Earnest Reed who raised Ben who was a believer in his country and God. The love of his country led Ben to join the Air Force and serve his country for 21 years as a medic and ambulance driver. He married Scherry Hill during his assignment at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. They were transferred to Amarillo Air Force Base where their family grew with five children. Some of his extended duty stations included Alaska, Spain and Las Vegas, NV. After retirement from the Air Force, Ben worked for Iowa Beef Packers for many years. He then moved. He then moved to Liberal, Kansas where he worked for National Beef. He and his second wife, Bernice then moved to Ohio. He later returned to Amarillo where he married Marilyn Breland. They resided in Amarillo until his death. Ben loved fishing, westerns, the Rock, Johnny Cash and listening to music.

He's preceded in death by his second wife Bernice, his parents, Thomas, Rachel and Ernest. Two brothers Gene and Dean, three sisters, Mary Rison, Barbara Goehring and Zella Paris.

His survivors include his wife Marilyn of the home. His children, Nychie, Michael, Scheryl, Mark and Rachel. Three brothers Don and Irvin of Washington and Elmer of Oregon. And two sisters, Grace Waltz of Washington and Dorothy Butler of Texas. Many nieces and nephews, friends and family.
