Benjamin Frank Hess, 84, of Amarillo died on Monday, September 15, 2014. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, September 19, 2014 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.
Ben was born on August 30, 1930 in Alexandria, LA. to Benjamin and Lonnie Hess. He graduated from Bunkie High School and proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Air Force. Ben married his wife, Charlotte on March 1, 1953 in Amarillo. He worked for Swift for 27 years and then owned Gentle Ben's Tractor Service in Amarillo. Ben was a hard working man who loved the outdoors. He always planted a big garden and raised two bottle fed calves with his grandchildren. He also loved to work on old tractors and go to farm sales.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Brent Sandlin.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte, a daughter Peggy Sandlin and husband Monte, a son Rodney Hess and wife Barbara and a granddaughter Bailey Hess, all of Amarillo.
The family will be receiving friends at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Thursday, September 18, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
