Barbara Ann Merker

Barbara Ann Merker, 78 of Amarillo passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011. Her Service will be at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Jones officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Chapel located at 8310 Coulter Road.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Chapel located at 8310 Coulter Road.
Barbara was born on August 5, 1933 in Brice, TX to Daniel O. and Myrtie Lee Mask-Slater. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1951. She worked as a secretary for many years in the freight and trucking industry and then for the Texas Employment Commission where she retired in 1995. Barbara was a current member of Hollywood Road Community Church and a past member of Second Baptist Church. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and attending Bible studies at the church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth, Buster and Leslie Slater and her step-father, Raymond Slater.
She is survived by 2 sons, Kirk Merker and wife Judy and Kent Merker and wife Robin; 4 grandchildren, Amy Bunch and husband Chris, Daniel Merker, Andrew Merker and Jordan Merker and great grandchild, Holden Bunch all of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials to: Hollywood Road Community Church, BSA Hospice’s Olivia’s Angels or to the Arbors Nursing Home Activity Fund.
