Arty Juanita Nash Farris was born on August 2, 1944, in Normangee to Odell and Oma Nash. She graduated high school from A & M Consolidated High School in College Station in 1962. She then attended Bryan Academy of Cosmetology where she received her cosmetology license as well as her instructor’s license.

Arty married Jim Farris on Sept. 26, 1964 in College Station. Arty was a strong-willed independent woman, but had an unmatched softness and compassion for anyone less fortunate. She deeply loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her time outdoors with her dedication to fitness by walking several miles almost daily. She loved to dance and could dance like an angel and now she is dancing with the angels.

Everyone around her has been blessed by the time spent with her and she will live in the hearts forever of all who loved and knew her. Her presence lit up the room but she still had the time and attention for anyone and everyone. Arty was a past member of the board of directors for the Dumas YMCA and worked tirelessly for the expansion from the tiny National Guard Armory to the sprawling multi-functional facility that exists today.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Farris of Amarillo; a daughter, Kelly Deaton of Amarillo; a son, Chris Farris of the Texarkana area; a granddaughter, Kandi Phillips and husband Tyler of Dumas; a grandson, Andrew Deaton of Amarillo; a great-grandson, Tyson Phillips of Dumas; four sisters, Dolores Birdwell of Bryan, Lenora Weatherford and husband Dennis of Dumas, Mary Toomer of Bryan and OmaDell Ellis and husband Willie of Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of choice.
