Alan Jay Rutz

Alan Jay Rutz left for his heavenly home on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at The Reserve in Amarillo, TX surrounded by family. He was born on August 4, 1952 to Alice and Milford Rutz in Perryton, TX. His arrival completed the Rutz brothers trio – Older brothers Gary and Ben L. Alan attended Booker schools all 13 years. In high school, Alan was a proud Booker Kiowa participating in sports as well as theater. He attended West Texas State University where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

He met Karol Peterson in Amarillo and married her in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on June 6, 1986. They lived in Sunday Canyon, and Alan worked for Joe Street Toyota. In 2007, Alan and Karol moved to Tulsa, OK where he worked for Jim Norton Toyota until his retirement in 2011. Alan and Karol built their dream retirement home in Potosi, Missouri and moved there in 2012. He returned to Amarillo in 2016 following Karol’s death. Alan’s faithful felines, Buddy and Cali filled his life with their antics and companionship.

Alan was preceded in death by his wife Karol, parents Alice and Milford, nephew Hayden and niece Shana Rutz. He is survived by brothers Gary of Edmond, OK, Ben L. of Amarillo TX., four nephews, numerous family members, and a host of friends.
