Adalene Greathouse, age 89, of Amarillo passed away Monday, October 28, 2013. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2013 in Llano Cemetery with Senior Pastor Jim Shelburne, Washington Avenue Christian Church officiating. Memorial Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2013 in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Senior Pastor Roger Smith officiating.

Adalene Snow was born on April 29, 1924 to William Crawford and Cassie Snow. She married Gerald "Blote" Greathouse in 1941 and lived in Amarillo. Adalene worked at various places during the 40's such as the "Double Dip" and the "The Nat". In 1950, she received her cosmetology license and opened Adalene's Beauty Shop in Pleasant Valley. Blote and Adalene moved to Flagstaff, AZ in 1967 and then to Clovis, NM in 1970. After Blote retired from Cannon Air Force Base in 1980, they relocated to Roswell, NM., until his death in December of 1996. Adalene soon moved back to Amarillo. She was a charter member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, and was very involved in Rebekah's and PTA. Adalene was an avid baker, well known for her cakes, and carried on her husband's love of football.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, auntie and Nana. As a devoted Christian who loved the Lord, Adalene led by example and witnessed to many.

Adalene was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, a daughter Carolyn Sue, a son-in-law Doug Pybus and 7 siblings.

She is survived by her only brother, Charles Snow of Austin; 4 daughters: Gaye Keaton of Amarillo, Cheryle Pybus of Plainview, Ira Jean Fendley and husband Gregg of Flagstaff, AZ and Jody Rush and husband Stacy of Clovis, NM; 1 son Gerald Greathouse and wife Lupe of Roswell, NM; 12 grandchildren: Carla, Leslie, Karolyn, Eric, Bobby, Jason, Brad, Clinton, Cristina, Dustin, Kyle and Calie; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family would like express their sincerest gratitude to the staff at Bivins Memorial Nursing Home and the staff of the Hospice Care of the Southwest.

The family will be receiving friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home, 8310 S. Coulter Road.

In leiu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church or Hospice Care of the Southwest.
