Every Veteran is Guaranteed a Gravesite in a National Cemetery

The New York Times reports that space is dwindling in revered National Cemeteries like Arlington, where many veterans are laid to rest. Download our comprehensive guide for free to understand eligibility criteria and successfully apply for burial benefits at National Cemeteries.

Every veteran is ensured a gravesite in a National Cemetery, with some restrictions applying to family members and certain non-military service roles like the Public Health Service and WWII Merchant Marine. Due to diminishing space at prominent National Cemeteries, individuals who delay applying may need to consider burial options in more distant locations such as Sitka, Alaska, or Kerrville, Texas.

Applying early doesn't guarantee a specific National Cemetery or gravesite, but it initiates the process of assigning final cemetery/gravesite, which begins immediately once the VA is notified of the eligible person's death.
